Siding was first used in North America in the 19th century. Planed and painted wooden boards were nailed to the wall at an angle so that the next horizontal layer hung slightly above the previous one - with this arrangement of the boards, water rolled down the cladding. Such sheathing became known as siding.
In the 50s of the XX century, vinyl facade panels began to be produced in the USA and Canada, which are much more durable than wood, maintenance-free, easy to install. At the same time, metal panels appeared - metal siding, as well as cement - cement siding. For lining the basement, a more durable one is used - basement siding.
Most often, siding is installed in facade systems using ventilated facade technology.
